Potent on the nose, the Cabernet speaking with herbal tones, some minty freshness, aniseed, vanilla and cedar. Crystalline and pristine handling of the fruit, it’s so smooth and succulent, not so crisp perhaps but on the edge – strikingly clean, and very pure. Feels effortless to drink, still has concentration but a lovely easy juicines combined with grip from the well integrated tannins makes this a joy to drink. I love the cool touches, the slightly bitter, dark chocolate liquorice elements. Refined and restrained with elegance throughout, not overpowering, still with a wide finish that suggests a large structure but graceful. I love this kind of wine – one that offers a lot of pleasure and isn’t too hard to think about. A great buy!. | Decanter | 2023 | 96

Druiven: 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot

Château Haut-Batailley is pas vorige eeuw ontstaan toen in 1942 Château Batailley werd verdeeld tussen twee broers van de familie Borie. Flink later, in 2006, wordt het wijndomein gemoderniseerd en gerenoveerd. Sindsdien is de kwaliteit sterk verbeterd. Als in 2017 Haut-Batailley wordt overgenomen door de bekende familie Cazes volgen verdere aanpassingen. Zo worden er extra wijngaarden aangeplant en de wijnkelders gereonveerd. Vandaag de dag is meer cabernet aangeplant en de 41 hectare kent 70% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot en 5% cabernet franc. De ster is rijzende en Château Haut-Battailey brengt tegenwoordig elegante, ingetogen wijn voort die tegelijk rijk, zacht en veel fruit geven. De familie Cazes bezit tevens Château Lynch-Bages.
