Totally delicious, just bursting with flavour, with silky tannins and purity to the raspberry, redcurrant and blackcurrant fruits, cloves and black pepper spices add clear depth through the mid palate. It’s not often that I prefer a 2020 to the 2019 in Margaux but this is a standout in the lineup. 2020 had natural low yields – 34hl/h yield overall, 32hl/h for the first wine, 40% new oak, being bottled at the time of tasting for delivery in September, so this is a barrel sample but only just. | Anson | 2023 | 95

Druiven: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot

Château Prieuré-Lichine, quatrième grand cru classé uit Margaux, was halverwege de vorige eeuw in erbarmelijke staat. Négociant Alex Lichine kocht het en hernoemde het domein tot Château Prieuré-Lichine (voorheen Château Prieuré). Door de jaren heen vergrootte het domein zich met de aankoop van steeds nieuwe wijngaarden. In 1999 werd het verkocht aan de groep van négocianten Ballande die met grote investeringen het domein brachten tot de topconditie van vandaag de dag. Tegenwoordig heeft het domein ruim 77 hectare beplant met 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot en 5% Petit Verdot. Geurige en elegante wijnen. Tweede wijn: Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine.
