The 2024 Léoville Las-Cases is gorgeous. All the Las-Cases signatures are present, just dialed down a touch. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, grilled herbs, graphite and menthol are all beautifully delineated. The 2024 is distinguished by its precision and total class. Time in the glass brings out the wine’s intensely floral, spice-inflected aromatics. Brisk acids and bracing mineral notes wrap it all together in style. Ooit onderdeel van het gigantische Léoville domein van meer dan 300 hectare groot, is Château Léoville Las Cases tegenwoordig een Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in Saint-Julien van altijd nog 98 hectare. Het Grote Léoville werd ooit opgeknipt in Château Léville Las Cases, Château Léoville Barton en Château Léoville Poyferré. Château Léoville Las Cases maakt ook een tweede wijn onder de naam Clos du Marquis. Deze wordt elk jaar gemaakt van druiven van steeds dezelfde wijngaarden en is in die zin een wijn op zichzelf. De “echte” tweede wijn is Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases. Bijna 100 hectare zijn beplant met 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc en 1% Petit Verdot. De stijl van de wijn van Château Léoville Las Cases laat zich omschrijven als krachtig, klassiek, elegant en complex.
