Liquorice on the nose with blue fruit aromas – cool and expressive. Quite tight on the palate, the tannins making the impact right now and the style still very much on the savoury edge. Good acidity here, but it’s coming off a little sharp, giving angles to the palate though given some cushioning by ripe tannins. I do love the red and black berry elements alongside pine notes, cedar, coffee, liquorice and tobacco, the wood flexing its muscles. Druiven: cabernet sauvignon, merlot

Château Léoville Barton, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé uit Saint-Julien heeft zelf geen château en dat is vijr uniek in Bordeaux. De kelders worden gedeeld met zuster château Château Langoa Barton en het is ook hier waar de wijn wordt geproduceerd. Ooit maakte het deel uit van een zeer groot wijndomein waaronder ook Château Léoville Las Cases en Château Léoville Poyferré vielen. De familie Barton is al eigenaar sinds 1722, een van de uitzonderingen in het Bordeaux van tegenwoordig. Château Léoville Barton maakt klassieke op Cabernet Sauvginon gedreven wijnen; harmonieus, stevige tannines die tijd nodig hebben, en gespierd. 47 hectare is beplant met 74% cabernet sauvignon, 23% en 3% cabernet franc.
