The 2025 Lafite-Rothschild was cropped at 27 hl/ha between September 2 and 20. Eric Kohler mentioned that, unlike 2022, it underwent a longermaceration than usual because, after 24 days, he felt the wine was at ease with itself and there was no excess. That comes through completely on thedeliriously intoxicating nose, replete with nuanced blackberry, bilberry and estuarine scents, all beautifully defined and seamlessly integrated with the90% new oak that is made from Lafite’s own cooper. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled tannins. It is blessed with extraordinary harmony and it is so well balanced that you almost overlook the weight and minéralité towards the finish. Just a dab of graphite lingers on the aftertaste. This is a very succinct and refined Lafite-Rothschild that I suspect will drink earlier than the 2022, yet will age with equal grace in bottle. I admit that, uponreturning to my car, it was only then that I realised what a brilliant wine the 2025 Lafite-Rothschild is destined to become. | Vinous | 2026 | 98-100

Château Lafite Rotschild, volgens velen het beste wat Pauillac te bieden heeft, volgens anderen het beste wat Bordeaux te bieden heeft. Hoe het ook zij, deze 1e Grand Cru Classé behoort in het rijtje thuis van de allerbeste wijnen ter wereld. Vanaf het begin dat er op het perceel landbouw wordt bedreven draagt het de naam Lafite. Reeds in 1234 was het Gombaud de Lafite die hier landbouw bedreef al was er nog geen sprake van wijnbouw. Veel later, in 1868, koopt Baron de Rotschild het wijndomein op een veiling en tot vandaag de dag is het in bezit van de familie. 112 hectare is aangeplant met 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc en 2% Petit verdot. Château Lafite Rothschild maakt geen krachtige of geconcentreerde wijnen maar elegante en verfijnde wijnen die een bijna ongrijpbaar breed pallet aan aroma en smaak laten zien. De wijnen hebben vaak tientallen jaren nodig om tot volledige ontwikkeling te komen. Tweede wijn: Carruades de Lafite. Tevens bezit men Château Duhart-Milon (Pauillac), Château Rieussec (Sauternes) en Château L’Evangile (Pomerol).
