Where you can drink Le Petit Ducru relatively soon, with La Croix you need to wait a few years for the structure to soften. The tannins are silky, the black fruits drenched in espresso, liquorice root spice and smoked oak. An extremely successful La Croix, sexy and powerful while still elegant and sculpted. Give it five or six years from now, and expect a drinking window of at least 15 years. In absolute topconditie is Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé uit Saint-Julien. Sinds 2003 wordt het geleid door Bruno Borie en die vaart zijn eigen koers. Tegenwoordig wordt voor de eerste wijn alleen nog het fruit uit het hart van de wijngaarden gebruikt met enorme kwaliteits-verbetering als gevolg. Intens geconcentreerde en smakelijke wijnen, complex, verfijnd en een uitzonderlijke puurheid van fruit. De 75 hectaren zijn beplant met 70% cabernet sauvignon en 30% merlot. Tweede wijn: La Croix de Beaucaillou. Uit dezelfde stal komt Château Lalande-Borie.
