Light cherry red, almost translucent but for the vibrant reflections and the medium intensity core, opens with a sweet shot of red cherry on the first nose. The tannins are rustic in the most charmingly unfussy way, with the red fruits set against delicious cut orange peel edges. So easy to sink into, just love these wines. Druiven: 100% Nerello Mascalese
Hoewel de familie al sinds 1890 druiven teelde, begon Giovanni Rosso pas zijn eigen Barolo’s op de markt te brengen eind jaren ’90. Giovanni Rosso verwierf al snel een plek bij de topproducenten in Barolo, met onder andere een 100 punten-notering van Wine Enthusiast op zak.
Sinds 2016 is Giovanni Rosso ook actief op de Siciliaanse Etna, waar wijngaarden werden aangekocht in de nabijheid van Passopisciaro, waar de beste wijngaarden van de Etna liggen. De bodems zijn hier uiteraard vulkanisch, de stokken meer dan 40 jaar oud. Giovanni Rosso maakt zowel rode Etna (van Nerello Mascalese) als witte Etna (van Carricante).
