This vintage marks 10 years since Lorenzetti arrived at Pédesclaux and began his transformation of the property. He should be given full credit for his success, and this is a great vintage to get on-board. Almost opposite to the 2nd wine in terms of its blend, this is a full 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the lowest amount of Merlot in the estate’s recent history (the plantings in the vineyard have halved since he arrived). You see the results in a slight austerity on the approach, as this is a serious wine with savoury, clearly defined cassis and bilberry fruit flavours and a clear layering up of tannins that give it Pauillac bite. | Decanter | 2020 | 94

Château Pédesclaux, Cinquième Grand Cru Classé uit Pauillac is een relatief jong domein dat pas begin 1800 werd opgezet door de familie Pédesclaux met de aankoop van de wijngaarden. Het is door de jaren heen regelmatig van eigenaar gewisseld en lang niet altijd in goede conditie geweest. Tegenwoordig hoort het toe aan Jacky Lorenzetti die ook Château Lilian Ladouys bezit in Saint-Estèphe. De laatste jaren is er veel werk verzet om het domein naar een hoger kwaliteitsniveau te brengen. En de laatste 6 jaar is de kwaliteit met grote sprongen omhoog gegaan. 48 hectare is beplant met 48% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvigon, 3% Petit Verdot en 2% Cabernet Franc.
