Black cherry, blueberry and cassis fruits on the opening beats, this is an intense Fonbel that leans into the vintage character but always stays on the right side of balance. A good quality wine with clear ageing ability, a little less immediately charming that in less highly charged vintages. Clay-sand soils with areas of gravel. Cellar master Philippe Baillarguet. 30% new oak. Harvest September 15 to 21, with the unusual addition of Carmanère in the blend. | Jane Anson | 2023 | 90

Château Ausone is legendarisch onder de wijnliefhebbers. Château Ausone is een Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé A en deelt deze status alleen met Château Cheval Blanc. Een uniek terroir met een bodem waarin veel kalksteen zit en de wijnen mineraliteit en zuiver fruit geeft die ongekend is. 7 hectare is beplant met 55% Cabernet Franc en 45% Merlot met wijnstokken van gemiddeld 50 jaar maar liefst. Tweede wijn: La Chapelle de Ausone. uit dezelfde stal Château de Fonbel uit Saint-Emilion
