Gorgeous fragrance, really ripe and expressive, so floral and perfumed too. Lovely pure aromatic expression. Ripe but juicy raspberry and black cherry fruit – cool and so refreshing. I love the gentle style, it’s smooth with tannins that give body but no weight. More vertical than wide, it’s layered and delicate. Finessed as you expect from Clos Fourtet. Lithe, supple, mouthwatering, a certain density is there and the length is great. Cool but chalky too. There’s power here in the fleshiness but it’s juicy with a touch of oak and enjoyable bitterness on the finish. Ageing 40% new oak, 60% one year used barrels. 3.5pH. 46hl/ha yield. | Decanter | 2024 | 95

Het op het kalksteen plateau gelegen Château Clos Fourtet aan de rand van St. Emilion was aanvankelijk een verdedigingsfort. Pas later, eind 18e eeuw, werd er wijn verbouwd. Sinds 2001 is Château clos Fourtet in handen van zakenfamilie Cuvelier. 20 hectare wijngaarden zijn beplant met 85% merlot, 10% cabernet franc en 5% cabernet sauvignon. Relatief jonge wijnstokken van gemiddeld 30 jaar omdat de wijngaard in z’n geheel werd herplant. De kwaliteit zal zicht de komende jaren daardoor verder ontwikkelen. Constante goede wijnen met kenmerkende mineraliteit, zwarte bessen, rijk en intens.
